畫境，是將生活中的美，通過取捨與概括，昇華成為一個有主次、有烘托、有呼應的多樣統一佈局，達到藝術美的畫境。
意境，在畫境之後，要達到觸景生情、情景交融的境界，故曰——意境。造園同作詩畫畫一樣，要抒發一種感情，追求一種理想，在園林創作中寓情、吟志，是園林藝術的最高審美境界。
